Research

In a country/pop music video would you expect to see a peformance, narrative or concpet based video?

The majority of people i asked thought that the video should be peformance based, also a high amount of people i asked also thought the video should narrative based. My video is going to be narrtive based with elements of peformance throughout the video.

If i a song is written about love, would you expect to see a love story within the narrative for the music video?

Most people asked thought that there should be elements of a love story with in the narrative as the song is a 'love song'

My brief

I am going to produce my own promotional music video for a track called wooden shield by Amy Joyce. Amy is a new artist so essentially the video will introduce Amy and her music, the video will be performance based with a narrative elements linking to the lyrics in the track, so it will contain various shots with numerous amounts of close ups of Amy and will also have her performing her song. Furthermore the video will be use for Amy’s MySpace page. The target audience will be teenagers and young adults.

Lyrics of the song;
You wake up and you hear the news,
shake off your cartoon blues,
you get rid of the jealous eye,
you put the blue right back into the sky.
I hear by God that you've been saved,
and to these people goodbye you waved,
and to the boys who're kneeling at your feet,
you kick them right back out into the street.
In the hotel bath tub after the foreign affair,
you baptised yourself and you dyed your hair,
and you've changed, now you say

I'll be your wooden shield,
until you find some metal to wield.
And if you have a flower in the summer,
i will be the sun to help you carry on.
Until the devil's gone

Dandilions in your hair form a crown,
the ground's far too far for you to look down,
softest clouds make the brightest schools,
philosophy in our swimming pools.
Tender love from a poet's tongue,
what's worth saying if it can't be sung?
Dressed in white, you're posing as a jewel,
and a bud of gold for your pedestool.
Heaven's a dress you choose to wear,
you're free to care but would you ever dare?
And you've changed, now you say

(chorus again)
bridge)
With a fine-toothed comb you get the knots all right,
you've got ten seperate crickets singing through the night,
I'll follow you fourty days through the sand,
cuz when I'm with you i can see the promised land.
(chorus again)

Resarch-Wordle

In order to get my head around the lyircs and for some inspiration and ideas for my music video I typed the lyrics of my song in to the worlde which then randomizes the words. Making some of the words bolder and clearer then others therefore maybe making these words more relevant within the song.

Lily Allen-LDN Goodwins ideas.

The video which i looked at was Lily Allen's LDN a populor pop song which was directed by Nima Nourizadeh. This video shows typical gene characteristics where the artist Lily Allen is performing her song whilst walking through the streets of London. There are quite a lot of long panning shots showing lilys whole body she is wearing bright red dress which is quite a fierce sexy colour, these certain shots follow the male gaze theory as the artist can be seen as sex symbol in order to make her popular among the male audience in order to reach a larger audience and sale more records. Also at the start of the video there is some intertexual refrence when Lily is the record shop asking for a very specfic mixed genre of music and in interviews when she first realsased her album this in the way she described her sound. lThe lyrics in the song have fairly serious message and can almost come across as outspoken although the majority are tounge in cheek, but in general the song is quite an upbeat cheerful pop song thanks to the chorus and the accompanying video. There is a clear relationship between the lyrics and the visuals the video follows the concept of the lyrics "When you look with your eyes everything seems nice, But if you look twice you can see its all lies" we can see this from the video as Lily walks through at first everything is nice as you can see below in the screenshot the lyrics are " A fella looking dapper-and he's sitting with a slapper, Then we see its a pimp and his crack whore" the video very much links in with the songs lyrics all the way through. The shot on left which is the "lie"is very bright and where as the "truth" is very dark and also the dark background the bright red dress which Lily is wearing so this links in with binary opposition such as light and dark. As you can see in the screen shots below.

Also the video has a number of close ups of the star Lily Allen which which shows off her style of wearing trainers with a dress. This give her own unique style making her different from any other artists around that time as she was a young women writing all of her own music and having her own style rather then following common trends. Also around this time the song was realeased Lily Allen was launching her own fashion range in new look so this was obviously a record label demand as to promote her Lily Allen as a brand. There are lots close ups of Lily throughout the video looking very happy and cheerful as if she is smiling to her audience. The video is very much a concpet video but is also performance based video.
